Waikite Valley Hot Pools Campground
Relax and unwind at Waikite Valley Hot Pools Campground where campers have free unlimited access to the hot pool complex onsite.
Nestled into a rural geothermal valley, Waikite Valley Hot Pools Campground offers a unique place to camp, relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst only being a 30 minute drive from Rotorua.
The highlight of this basic campground is the unlimited access to the 6 public geothermal pools during business hours, as well as a sneaky early entry for campers in the morning before the pools open to the public at 10:30am. With each pool emptied and refilled nightly, campers can quite literally get out of bed in the morning and enter into fresh, 100% pure geothermal water. During daylight hours, campers are also able to explore the Eco Trail leading to the impressive Te Manaroa Spring, which naturally bubbles away at 99℃.
The campground offers powered sites suitable for campervans and caravans and non-powered sites suitable for campervans, caravans, tents and rooftop tents. There are basic bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities available plus a thermally heated drying room for campers to use during their stay. There is also a small snack cafe for those wanting to enjoy a coffee or bite to eat. There is no wifi available and cell phone reception is limited, making it a great place to disconnect from devices. There isn’t a dump station on site, the closest being in Rotorua.
Perfectly located between Rotorua and Taupō, within easy access to the area's geothermal attractions, the campsite also marks the end of Te Ara Ahi cycle trail, part of Ngā Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trails. For keen golfers who enjoy the challenge of rustic, rolling terrain with live obstacles, the Waikite Valley Golf Course is located directly opposite the Waikite Valley Hot Pools complex.
Outside of public holidays and peak season, dogs are welcome to stay too. Please contact one of the friendly staff at info@hotpools.co.nz for more information
