River’s Catch is an upmarket fish-n-chips-n-more shop tucked away in the tree-lined streets of Sunnybrook. Proprietor Isabel loves to have fun with flavours, adding her own touch to traditional Kiwi comfort foods by harkening back to her Filipino heritage.
Specialties include RC Battered Fish on Between Bread (Isabel’s nickname for the somewhat sweet, traditional Filipino bread roll called pandesal made in Rotorua by Adoughbro), adobo fish tacos, slaw with miso dressing, Smash Burgers, and, for a punch of sugary goodness, the battered and fried stroopwaffle.
There are many more options on the menu, both traditional and non, as well as seasonal specials like battered and fried oyster mushrooms.
Add a side of kumara fries and chipotle mayo, a fizzy drink or kambucha, and you’ve got one heck of a flavourful meal.
