Hobbiton Movie Set

Nestled in the rolling green hills of the Waikato, visitors are given the once in a lifetime opportunity to see an iconic film set in its full glory; from wandering the rambling paths of the Shire™, to seeing the submerged Hobbit Holes™ that litter the rolling green hillsides. With many fantastic venues to choose from including The Green Dragon™ Inn, the Party Marquee, Yard Flat and the festive Market Place. Hobbiton Movie Set has all the resources to create a successful event your guests will never forget.
 
Everyone who joins us for an event at Hobbiton Movie Set takes part in a tour. The Hobbiton Movie Set tour acts as the perfect activity to set up the evening festivities. A Hobbiton guide takes guests on a journey through the set and explains how Hobbiton was brought to life for filming. Throughout the set there are 44 complete Hobbit Holes, the Mill, the Double Arch Stone Bridge and The Green Dragon Inn kept as they were during filming. All catering is provided onsite and our exclusive Hobbit Southfarthing™ beverages and Middle-earth™ Wines are available at The Green Dragon Inn as guests complete the tour and continue the evening in one of our spectacular venues.
 

The Green Dragon Inn

Since 2012, we have been privileged to present The Green Dragon Inn as part of our experience. The Green Dragon Inn is an exceptional example of expert craftsmanship. Step inside the masterfully recreated pub, where the barrels are filled with our exclusive Southfarthing™ ale, stout, cider and ginger beer, a perfect match to any feast in The Shire™. 

We have a delectable range of food available from our professional in-house catering staff, covering everything from canapés to a banquet feast fit for a Hobbit™.

The Green Dragon Inn is fully themed with indoor and outdoor fireplaces encouraging your guests to spread out into the beer garden beneath the glowing lanterns.
 

The Party Marquee

The Party Marquee is a fully themed, spacious location for large groups. The painted canvas exterior, vibrant bunting and colourful lanterns means your group will be immersed in the festive magic of the movies.

The Party Marquee is adjacent to The Green Dragon™ Inn, with the garden bar outside overlooking the Hobbiton™ Movie Set, providing an exquisite view for all our guests.
Like The Green Dragon Inn, the marquee has a fully licensed bar and catering is tailored to your event by our professional in house team.
 

The Millhouse

Introducing The Millhouse, our new, fully themed venue located on the movie set, just across the water from The Green Dragon Inn.

The Millhouse is an expertly crafted venue offering the same warm, inviting atmosphere of The Green Dragon Inn, but in a more intimate setting ideal for private dining experiences, small wedding receptions and corporate meetings. 

The exposed wooden beam ceilings, crackling fire place and curated decor set the scene, while the cleverly hidden AV technology, full commercial kitchen and bathroom facilities complete the function of the space as a self-contained multi-use venue available for hire. 
 

The Marketplace

The Marketplace is a bustling, vibrant experience to tantalise the senses of your visitors. Guests will find themselves engulfed in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of The Shire™.
Situated by the Mill and a short stroll across the double arch stone bridge from The Green Dragon™ Inn is the Marketplace. Guests are invited to taste a real piece of New Zealand from individually themed stalls bursting with traditional Hobbit fare. The market stalls are catered to your guest’s requirements and can consist of New Zealand cheeses, freshly baked artisan breads, cured meats, smoked fish, and of course fresh produce from the Hobbiton™ gardens just to name a few.

Throughout the evening there will be roaming Middle-earth entertainment mingling amongst the guests. Our visitors are invited to move freely throughout the area and watch the carpenters, horse farriers and puppeteers go about their daily life. Among the stalls will be Hobbiton’s handcrafted barrel bars pouring the exclusive Hobbit™ Southfarthing™ range, a selection of Middle-earth™ wines and various non-alcoholic beverages.

As the sun sets over Hobbiton Movie Set the village will light up and provide a stunning backdrop for your celebration. 

The Marketplace is a unique and special experience offered exclusively to function groups.
 

Yard Flat

Celebrate in true Middle-earth™ style on Yard Flat, our purpose built area built for large incentive groups. Yard Flat has a stunning view overlooking the set and towards the iconic Party Tree. This area is purpose built and can be altered and adapted to suit your group’s needs. The garden bar stretches out towards the set and comfortably sits on top of the Hobbit Holes making for a perfect evening in The Shire.
 
Yard Flat has been created to comfortably sit a 20x50m marquee which we can hire to put in place for your function.
 

The Hub

The Hub is a newly constructed, architecturally designed building situated at The Shire's Rest, with flexible meeting rooms and stunning views overlooking the surrounding farmland and rolling green hills.

The 1600m² venue features two conjoining rooms, aptly named the Angus and Romney rooms after the varieties of livestock breeds that are farmed on the surrounding Alexander Farm. These two flexible meeting rooms can be used separately or combined to host groups of up to 130 guests. With breakout spaces for welcome drinks, meals or meetings available, with stunning views overlooking the farmland.

The Hub rooms can be for hired half or full day meetings with option to add a tour of the movie set and dinner function in The Green Dragon Inn, making it the perfect meeting space before you begin your Middle-earth adventure.
