New Zealand’s premier Māori cultural centre and home of the world-famous Pōhutu Geyser
Our people have called the geothermal valley of Whakarewarewa home for more than 25 generations.
Set amidst 500 pools and 65 geyser vents, of which seven are active, the stunningly majestic Pōhutu Geyser takes centre stage. Meaning “big splash or explosion”, Pōhutu puts up a spectacular performance of pure power with regular eruptions that reach up to 30 meters skyward.
Te Whakaruruhau
Capacity: 380 seated | 800 standing
Te Whakaruruhau is a large sheltered area near the entrance to Te Puia. Conveniently located next to the Pōhutu Café, Rotowhio Marae and Te Heketanga a Rangi, this open meeting space is suitable for large functions, both seated or canapés and a la carte.
This premium event venue has in-floor heating and ceiling radiant heaters for added warmth, along with a sound system, projector screens and lighting rigging.
Pātaka Kai
Capacity: 350 to 650
Overlooking the valley’s geothermal vista, with sweeping views of the world-famous Pōhutu Geyser, Pātaka Kai seats up to 350 people, including offers outdoor deck dining and indoor spaces which can be sectioned off to create private areas.
Seated dining capacity can be expanded to approximately 650 people between Pātaka Kai and Te Whakaruruhau, which sit adjacent to each other.
The menu has been created to be sophisticated, innovative and cutting-edge, infusing Māori flavours, cuisine and cooking styles.
Te Poari
Capacity: 120
Te Poari is situated next to the main kitchen, making it the ideal venue for functions where catering is important. With seating for 120 and a separate buffet area, Te Poari is a versatile gourmet restaurant.
Te Puke a Ruahine Geyser Marquee
Capacity: 50
Dine underneath the stars, deep in the heart of Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, with Pōhutu Geyser illuminated in its full glory beneath starry skies. Enjoy an intimate and awe-inspiring encounter with our unique environment and with the people and stories of this land. Your dinner will take place in a marquee, situated adjacent to the magnificent Pōhutu Geyser.
