Summer guides – Sort your Rotorua accommodation now

We’ve said it before but it bears repeating: Rotorua is the perfect getaway destination for families large and small.

Besides the long list of amazing things to do here, the vast array of accommodation options means there’s something to suit nearly every budget whether you’re a small family or travelling with the whole tribe of cuzzies and in-laws.

Secluded spot for two

When it’s just you and your favourite person, and the two of you love a little rustic hideaway, you must check out Jack’s Hut. This sweet little 1930s dwelling spent its early years as a shepherd’s hut but is now a the perfect spot to relax and unwind, and enjoy the views over beautiful Lake Tarawera. On chilly nights, fire up the outdoor wood-fuelled hot tub for two for a romantic soak under the stars. Or, follow the short walkway to the beach and paddle around on the two-person kayak.

Luxe location for up to five

Families can be luxuriously accommodated at Peppers on the Point. Kids love the animals onsite who love to be hand-fed, and parents love the two-bedroom apartment that fully self-contained with a separate living/dining area, and a spa bath in the bathroom. The Lake Villa is the owner’s residence, and sits above the lodge where it enjoys the very best of the lake and city views. This spacious villa is a real treat.

Close to all the action

If Nan and Pop are joining you for your Rotorua holiday, both Aura Accommodation and Sport of Kings offer apartments that accommodate up to six people. These motels are very convenient to the city centre yet tucked away down quite little side streets, ensuring restful nights and the sense you’re miles away from it all. Onsite amenities include pools, playgrounds and games, BBQ facilities and kitchenettes.

Extended family gatherings

Lastly, for now, if you’ve actually managed to wrangle a group of 14 to enjoy a holiday together, Waterfront Escape on Lake Ōkareka is an ultimate location. With five bedrooms, large open-plan living area, full kitchen, and lounge and dining room opening out onto a deck with 180-degree lake views, you’ll be tempted to spend your entire holiday onsite. There’s even another separate unit on the property that can be booked out as well, if you have a couple last-minute tagalongs.
