Pro rider's tips for the best mountain biking holiday

Brook Macdonald, World Cup mountain biker, shares why Rotorua ticks all the boxes for the ultimate mountain biking holiday.

RIDE
Favourite mountain biking track(s) and why? I’ve explored a variety of tracks around Rotorua but there are so many that it’s hard to remember the names of my favourites, but honestly everything in that forest is amazing riding!!

DRINK
Favourite to grab a beverage after mountain biking? And why? The Goodeastern Taphouse. It’s basically a five-minute ride out of the Whakarewarewa Forest depending where you come out. The food is amazing and they have a great selection of beers.

PLAY

Favourite activity in Rotorua (other than mountain biking)? And why? That’s a tough one as there is so much to do in Rotorua, but I’d have to go with Redwoods Altitude. The experience is second-to-none with climbs up to 25 metres high and spending two hours crossing swing bridges and zip lines.

EAT
Favourite place to dine? And why? My favourite is Yamato Japanese Restaurant, it’s the closest tasting sushi to Japan, and it’s really fresh and they have amazing staff.

SLEEP
Favourite place to stay. And why? Aura Accommodation, the staff were super friendly and welcoming, rooms were nice and spacious, and the place is super close to Eat Streat.
