Māori Culture

When darkness falls, the true love story of the city's geothermal wonderland comes to life.

Until now, the magic hidden within Te Puia after hours has remained a secret that only Mother Nature knew. For the first time ever, the geothermal valley is revealed under night skies, providing a multi-sensory experience not replicated anywhere else. Hear the stories of the past and feel the beauty of the world-famous Pōhutu Geyser in an interactive journey guided by flashlight.

Experienced guides through 3km of bush trail illuminated by special lighting to showcase some of the most significant landmarks in the geothermal valley.

An experienced guide helps navigate with love stories of the area, making it the perfect date night adventure for couples. The wide appeal of the experience also makes Geyser by Night - Te Puia Light Trail the ideal night-time outing for friends and families with children aged 10 and over, as long as everyone has a medium level of fitness.

Guests will visit Pōhutu as she rumbles in the darkness as well as Waikite Geyser, which hasn’t erupted since 1969 but was once the crown jewel of Te Whakarewarewa Valley.
